STREET & ARCHITECTURE PHOTOGRAPHY

Street and architecture photography are two of my favorite types of photography.

Street photography is essentially, in my view, the photography of day to day life. It can be done in any urban setting, from towns to cities, as long as it has areas where people gather such as main streets or "downtown" areas.

The key is to look for location where people are going about their daily business, and that is why downtown areas work so well for this. While this area of photography may seem to be illegal or an invasion of privacy, there are no laws against it. You can ask permission of the people in the shot but it isn't legally necessary. In fact street photography works best when the subjects don't know they are being photographed. Street photographs can be color, but black and white photographs to me look better.

Architecture photography is another favorite area of mine. It can be urban, country or anywhere in between. It can shots of the whole building or close ups of certain features of buildings. It can be modern buildings, two hundred year old churches or even abandoned farm houses and barns. Like street photography the location dictates whether color or black and white works best.
These are just two of my favorite areas of photography.
